Childbirth Class

Preparing to bring home a baby is a wonderful, and at times overwhelming, experience. With so many things to think about, small details may slip your mind. What pediatrician will examine your child after birth? What do you need to pack for the hospital? Does your partner understand what you will be experiencing during and after labor?

UPMC CCP partners with UPMC Bedford in their Childbirth Class, a free program especially for mothers and their support system to answer all of these questions and more. Led by UPMC Bedford Labor and Delivery Department, partnering with your own UPMC CCP pediatrician, you will learn about routine care, breast and formula feedings, signs of sickness, what to expect in labor and delivery and other important information.

The Childbirth Class takes place right in UPMC Bedford Hospital, just across the street from our office. To register for a class, call 814-623-3516.

Breastfeeding Counseling

UPMC CCP – Bedford Cessna now offers Breastfeeding Counseling. Our Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC) will work closely with you to provide breastfeeding education and support. This service is offered in the privacy and comfort of our office. We encourage you to schedule an appointment with our counselor if you and your baby are having issues with inability to latch, milk supplementation, weight loss in infant or any other breastfeeding difficulties. Should you have any questions regarding this service, please call our office.

Once you have delivered your baby, please tell the hospital staff which UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics’ office you have chosen for your baby’s care. Depending upon the hospital, either a member of the UPMC CCP care team or a hospital-based pediatrician will examine your baby before they leave the hospital.

Remember to call your CCP office before leaving the hospital to schedule your baby’s first check-up with us. We will see your baby in our office as soon as necessary after hospital discharge, typically within two to three days.

Our office is always accepting new patients. Whether you’re joining us from another pediatric office, or you are just welcoming a newborn into the world, UPMC CCP is always happy to make your child a part of the UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics network. Pennsylvania law requires all children under the age of 18 to be accompanied by an adult for each CCP office visit. Adults other than the patient’s biological parent or legal guardian will need to complete a Medical Consent Authorization form prior to the appointment. Some exceptions may apply.
