Children’s Community Pediatrics to Offer BASELINE ImPACT® Testing in Select Offices

May 9, 2012

Children’s Community Pediatrics (CCP) has partnered with UPMC Sports Medicine to offer BASELINE ImPACT® Testing in select offices. ImPACT® (Immediate Post Concussion and Cognitive Assessment Testing) is the first, most-widely used, and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. Developed in the early 1990's, ImPACT® is a test that has become a standard tool used in comprehensive clinical management of concussions for athletes of all ages.

The BASELINE ImPACT® test is used to establish a baseline of normal cognitive function of each individual. The BASELINE test will then be used as part of a comprehensive clinical evaluation to determine recovery following a concussion. The BASELINE test does not evaluate your child for a concussion, identify past concession(s), prevent future concussions or determine if your child is predisposed to a concussion. BASELINE testing performed at CCP will be available at UPMC Sports Medicine Center if a referral is recommended.

This non-invasive test is set up in a video game type format and take about 30 minutes to complete. The test tracks information such as memory, reaction time, speed, and concentration. It is not an IQ test and poses no risk to patients.

CCP is recommending all patients participating in contact sports 10-years-old and older receive this BASELINE exam.
